Troubleshooting guide

We are sorry you are having an issue with your GrowOff!

The following troubleshooting guide is a good place to start to solve the most common issues. If you are still have trouble after completing the steps below, please contact us!

You can jump to the issue you are having by clicking the symptom below:

Symptom: Plants in cassette are too dry

Symptom: My module is offline

Symptom: There is a task to harvest a plant that is too small

Symptom: The plants are miscolored or there are bugs in the module

Red indicator lights

Under each growing position is a colored indicator light that conveys information to the user.

Red blinking light: This position may have been overwatered. Remove the cassette, clean the position and wipe it off with a dry towel. Insert a new cassette.

Red constant light: Water has been inactivated on this position due to technical issues. Please contact Grönska Support for assistance.

Symptom: Plants in cassette are too dry

Examples

Recommendations

Step 1:

Make sure the cassette is inserted in the correct direction, with the RFID-tag facing forward, towards you.

Also make sure the tag does not look damaged (water damaged or ripped).

Correctly inserted cassette with RFID-tag facing forward.

Step 2:

Make sure there is no water under the cassette. The surface under the cassette should be completely dry and clean. Water or dirt disturbs the water sensor that allows cassettes to be watered.

Water sometimes leaks out of a cassette when harvesting. Be sure to clean positions after harvesting.

Small leaks can arise during the lifetime of the cassette. Make sure to clean and dry before placing back the cassette.

Dirt and nutrient rich water can interfere with water sensor readings. Make sure to clean and dry before placing back a cassette

Step 3: Make sure there are no holes in the cassette or other damage.

Hole or damage to a cassette causing leaking.

Step 4:

Make sure the cassette is inserted correctly. It should be standing flat, not leaning on the cassettes next to it or tilted front to back.

Cassette inserted incorrectly. Tilted and leaning on another cassette.

Step 5:

If none of the previous steps resolves the issue, try switching the cassette with a cassette on a different position and see if the situation improves after 24 hours.

Symptom: My module is offline

Recommendations

Modules sometimes temporarily loose connection to the WiFi or 4G.

If the problem persists for more than 24 hours please check the following:

Step 1: Make sure the module has power. There is a power switch on the power cable to the module. It should be turned to 1 and lit in red when powered.

Step 2: If using local WiFi make sure the Wifi network is working correctly.

Step 3: Restart the module by turning the power off, waiting 15 seconds and turning it back on. Wait at least 10 minutes for the module to come back online.

Symptom: There is a task to harvest a plant that is too small

Recommendation

The task to harvest is a recommendation from Grönska based on average growth rate of the specific plant. Various factors contribute to either faster or slower growth rate, for example temperature at the location where you are.

If there is a task to harvest a cassette but you consider the plant too small, simply leave it in the module a little longer! The module will continue to water the cassette as usual. When the plants meet your expectation you can harvest.

Symptom: The plants are miscolored or there are bugs in the module

Examples

Miscolored cilantro

Aphids on dill

Recommendations

Miscolored plants

If you see mis-colored plants, make sure the nutrient and pH tanks in the basement drawer are filled (red, blue and yellow tank).

Bugs in the module

Growing without pesticides means fruit-flies, gnats and aphids can appear in your module! Its a consequence of growing clean and healthy greens!

These insects come from outside the module, not from the cassettes (the pots contain sterile coco-fiber and are dried before packing into cassettes). Commonly the insects come from other plants or fruit that may be standing near the module.

To prevent insects entering the module keep the doors closed when not working in the module. Remember to wash your hands before handling plants in the module.

Flies and gnats typically thrive when there is decomposing plant material and water available. Therefore, keeping the module clean is a good way to prevent insects.

  • Clean up any water or plant material that may have appeared under a cassette. This is easiest to do regularly when harvesting a cassette before inserting a new one.

  • Clean the glass inside the module with soapy water

  • Throw away any plants that look unhealthy

Keeping plants for a long time in the module can increase the risk of insects and pests. If you have harvested plants by cutting at the root and leaving the pots in the module to continue growing this may be attractive to insects. Remove old plants from the module if you are having issues with insects.

Healthy plants are more resistant to insects and pests. Plants thrive when they are getting appropriate water, light and nutrients. Make sure the nutrient and pH tanks in the basement drawer are filled (red, blue and yellow tanks).

If you notice an infestation of gnats, flies or aphids try to identify all cassettes that are infested and remove them from the module. Clean the module thoroughly.
